Reinforced concrete is more popular than bricks for constructing buildings in Japan. Although we’ve introduced bricks in 19th century, we had to give up using them because of earthquakes. Our technique for improving earthquake resistance was not enough at that time and most of the buildings made of bricks collapsed in a big earthquake.
